Why Gracie Jiu-Jitsu?

  • One in 6 people will be the victim of a violent attack.
  • One in 4 women will be the victim of a sexual attack in their lifetime.
  • 95% of all violent attacks and street fights end up on the ground.
  • 10% of violent attacks do not survive the encounter.
  • Atlanta is classified as one of America’s 5 most violent cities.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is the only system in the world that effectively deals with self-defense on the ground. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man, woman, or child, nor does it matter if you are small, weak, strong or “over the hill”. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu will give you the tools to defend yourself in a real world attack.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a modern combat system developed from traditional Jiu-Jitsu by Grand Master Helio Gracie. At 135 lbs., BJJ founder Helio modified the traditional Jiu-Jitsu to work based on technique and leverage rather than speed and strength. This is the art that changed NHB (No Holds Barred) fighting forever, of course by his son UFC Champion Royce Gracie.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu students Learn:

  • How to defend against punches and kicks from the standing position.
  • How to neutralize an attacker’s stand up aggression while taking them to the ground and maintaining the top position.
  • How to defend and submit a larger opponent from the bottom position.
  • Practical self-defense, including chokes, joint locks, from both the standing and ground position.
  • How to defend against an attacker armed with a gun, stick or knife.
Steve Brown has been a friend and training partner to Joey since 1980. He has an extensive background in martial arts instruction, including Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (Since 1989, Steve and his wife, Peggy, have had their own Mixed Martial Arts Program at the Ravinia Athletic Club). His style of instruction always emphasizes safety and support among practitioners. Joey gives his strongest endorsement of Steve and his Jiu-Jitsu classes.
